to Capt. John Chernesky, Commanding Officer, USS MISSOURI.
This document and a numbered reproduction of the signed
surrender photograph are permanently displayed aboard the USS
MISSOURI.
Former and present crew members of the USS MISSOURI
stand behind a reproduction of the "Instrument of Surrender"
document. The original document was signed aboard the MISSOURI
on September 2, 1945 and rests in the National Archives in Washington,
D. C. The reproduction was presented to the ship by Mr. James
Mitchell,President of Historical Documents Reproductions, Inc.
of Jasper, Texas on March 26, 1990.
